Week 5 - Siding, Rain, and Tired Happiness

Aside from the first week when we erected the steel frame, our Week 5 Team made the most visual changes to the building.

Aside from the first week when we erected the steel frame of the building, our Week 5 Team made the most visual changes to the building.

Front entry stairs

They installed nearly every single panel of siding. Now the building has its final shape and color and texture. People came to visit from all around including officials from the government. They are very impressed.

We are very tired. Everyone is happy.

Job well done!

The shiny white FRP board was also installed in the shower dressing rooms giving them that squeaky clean look.

The raw concrete floor got its base coat of super tuff, super smelly finish, also giving the interior a wide open clean feel. We will leave the top coat for the locals to roll on after they install the lighting and interior room dividers.

Our overwhelmed plumber tested his system this week and there were about 20 leaks! In watching him work it occurred to me that he wasn't seeing very well. Some reading glasses were left from another week and so we gave them to him to try.

Happy man.

And well, fewer leaks.....

For my animal report, a goat pooped in a shower, a big snake was caught 20' outside my bedroom door and our volunteer Kathy got stung by a scorpion.

Your basic day in the neighborhood.

It is hitting the locals that we are now starting our last week here and they are finding it tough. We've had a great time with each other and they are very proud of their work on this project.

An extra special thank you goes to Week 5 volunteers because they brought the rain which finally cooled us off a bit and was sorely needed for local food crops.

All the best,

Rome

Our volunteers took on organizing a storage area full of donated items.

Volunteer Ellen, a doula, taught the waiting mothers exercises to help with delivery. Lots of giggles.
