I had to take this picture, from this angle, because the writing across his backside says, 'we are the solution'. Digging the trench for the water line along the snap line. Concrete pad poured at for the new water spigot Grading and compacting the high road that leads from the street to the basketball court More grading, plus first volunteer quarters and toilet in background. Assembling volunteer housing Cutting rebar for footing cages Brick delivery by mototaxi The container LUC Outreach Foundation shipped from the U.S leaves storage hadling at the port in Lima, on its way to San Francisco de Asis Unloading the container - the steel bulding members still to be removed. Volunteers continue to unload the trailer Active tool shelves! Emily (red shirt) works with locals to make footing forms. Volunteers tie the rebar together to make the footing cages Emily and a volunteer bend rebar for the footing cages One length of footing trench. The four bolts in the forefront are anchor bolts. Once the foundation is poured, these will remain visible above the concrete, while below the wood the bolts are sunk deeply into the concrete. This is a critical step as the steel beam uprights are set on top of the anchor bolts and fastened down. Horizontal meets vertical! Instructions for the concrete crew on the morning of the footing pour. Note the upper left command. :) Mixer and pumper trucks, at the ready! Volunteers pour more water on top of the new foundation to keep it from curing too quickly, which would produce cracks. Everybody works together to get it screwed down onto the anchor bolts What a great looking site - a beautiful foundation and all 10 columns in place. Well done volunteers! Sunday, week 5: the path is gravelled and the sand behind the community center has been seeded and covered with top soil. Pierre measuring the size of drywall he needs to finish that wall. Kathy Yamamoto then cuts to measure and Pierre and Izzy install them. Mr. Machado installed the toilets, but not working yet... Kathy and Pierre, part of the drywall team, doing a great job!
